The FDA has released revised Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines specifically for dietary supplement manufacturers, with enhanced requirements for ingredient identity testing and product specifications verification.
The updated guidelines require more rigorous testing protocols for botanical ingredients, including DNA barcoding for plant-based components. Additionally, manufacturers must implement more comprehensive contamination prevention measures throughout the production process.
These new standards will take effect on January 1, 2026, giving manufacturers time to update their processes and equipment. Facilities will be subject to inspection based on these new guidelines starting in early 2026.
